doubting yourself

leave
Self doubt is something that can easily creep up on you without a moments notice. That happened to me yesterday while I was prepping for today's post. It all revolved around my photography. I had planned to talk about a hike we took to Humpback Rock a few weekends ago. I spent hours attempting to edit the same five photos, but they all just came out terrible. I couldn't get them exactly how I was wanting them and it was frustrating me. That's when the self- doubt creeped in and it was a downward spiral from there. However, after exercising and cooking dinner, I came back to try again and there it was - a comment from a lovely reader and it was exactly what I needed to boost my spirits again.

In the end, I learned the best thing for me to do when I am frustrated is to walk away and do something else, because it'll all work itself out and you'll at least find one photo you like ;)

What helps you when you are frustrated?

  1. I completely agree, Danielle! With everything that's been going on in my personal life lately, I find it extremely difficult to find inspiration and design. Something that used to come to me so easily has become a frustrating task. To help me, I've been closing photoshop, going on a walk and coming back with a fresh mind - I feel that helps the most! So happy your spirits are lifted again :)

  2. Oh Danielle, this happens to me all the time! I'm starting to get into photography and I notice that the most frustrating thing about it is editing - there are so many ways to go and I can spend hours just trying to edit it perfectly. I do exactly as you do - I walk away for a bit and when I return, I always always listen to how I feel when I see it for the first time again with fresh eyes (after editing) - do I love it? It looks different when you're not staring at it for hours! I surprise myself sometimes, if not, I know then the direction I must go. I love your photos and we all get stuck like this, it's part of the creative process! :) Continue your great work! xo

  3. Self Doubt is Brutal! and I love the photo. I used to read a lot of books on helping that creative spirit and now since I have a baby.. I make art and listen to podcasts :). So I have been subscribing to motivational podcasts- to give me that push that I sometimes need.

    1. I go threw phases where I will listen to podcasts - usually to help my fall asleep. I really enjoy them and need to listen to them regularly!
